Maplewood's Summer Equestrian Camp is designed for students aged 7 and older. Our Pony Club Specialty Camp is for campers aged 4 to 6 years old. Registrations are limited to 6 campers per group and a maximum of 2 groups each week.
Participants enjoy up to two lessons each day. The morning session is a more formal lesson to develop specific skills while the afternoon riding (as long as the day isn't too hot) provides an opportunity for games and Musical Ride training, building on the skills developed in the morning lesson.
When not in the riding lesson, or grooming and preparing the horse before and after the riding, participants in the camp enjoy many other horse-related activities: bathing a horse; challenging Poppy in a bobbing for apples competition; working through a workbook to learn horse anatomy breeds, and colours; stable management activities; and games. On hot days, participants are able to cool off in the 18 x 36 in-ground pool.
One group of Summer Equestrian Camp is being offered each week of summer. Please check the dates and availability for each week below.
The Competition Camp focuses on giving participants a view of different competitive disciplines. This week of camp is great for anyone wanting to get a little extra practice in at the beginning of the show season, for those new to horse shows, and for those just wanting to learn something a little different! The camp week ends with participants performing different show classes for a judge and receiving feedback from the judge. Registrations are limited to 6 participants for this week. Approval from the head coach is required to register into this camp.
Competition Camp is offered on Week 2 and is now FULL!
The Pony Club is specifically designed for participants aged 4 to 6 years old. Resources are age-appropriate and the ratio of campers to coaches is smaller than for the older kids. Registrations are limited to a maximum of 4 campers each week. The Pony Club will be on Weeks 1, 4, 6, and 8. Please check the dates and availability below.
Trail Camp is a great camp for riders with experience. The week begins with trails on the property and, weather permitting, builds to two off-property trail rides in the area. Registrations are limited to 4 participants and approval from the head coach is required.
Trail Camp on Week 9 is FULL! Because of the demand, we have added another week of Trail Camp on Week 7. Please check the dates and availability below.
The Rider Level week is designed to prepare each participant for the nationally standardized exams. During the first four days, participants work on the three elements of the exams: a written exam on theory, a practical exam for stable management practices, and a ridden exam. A certified examiner is brought in on the Friday of the week. Results of the exams are submitted to Ontario Equestrian. Participants must have an Ontario Equestrian membership. Participants also need approval from the head coach to register for this week. Registration is limited to a maximum of 6 participants.
The Rider Level Camp is offered on Week 5. Please check the dates and availability below.
