I have been working with horses since 2003, coaching since 2011.  I have completed Level 8 through Equestrian Canada's Learn to Ride Program.  I have competed in dressage (Gold First and Second Levels), and hunter and jumper at the Silver levels.  I love to bring my multi-discipline knowledge to all of my students to help them achieve any goals they may have.

I started at Maplewood as a youth, took a break from riding as I pursued competitive gymnastics, but returned to riding and Maplewood as a young teen. I have been working at Maplewood as a Lesson Prep Leader and in the barns for many years. I have taken on the role of Head Lesson Prep Leader, responsible for ensuring the training of the staff who look after the preparation phases of the lessons. I also enjoy sharing in the coaching of the Summer Camp programs, especially getting to know all of the new students who begin their equestrian adventures with a summer camp!

Full Service Indoor Board

We offer top quality care for your equine family member. Our boarding barn is separate from the lesson barn, allowing boarders to enjoy a relaxed and intimate environment.

Boarding Request

The Maplewood difference!

We are please to offer our boarders a relaxing and private boarding experience. Though we do run a school program, we are fortunate to have 2 barns to be able to separate our school from our boarders/lessees. This allows our boarders and lessees to have access to their own barn.

The Silver Barn (our name for the boarder barn) is connected to the indoor arena, with a tack room (saddle rack, shelving, and a tack cubby for each horse), and indoor wash stall.

Show Team

We are so happy to offer a wide range of competition experiences for riders of all levels. Our show team ranges from the newcomer and walk/trot divisions at our in-house and schooling shows, to silver dressage and bronze hunter.

Our goal is to create and safe and supportive environment for our students and boarders to progress through the levels. We run a show team meeting and different clinic sessions to help competitors (and parents!) prepare for the show season. Show Team Meeting 2021: Date, time and location to be determined.

Information
Applications to be part of the 2022 Show Team (current students only) will be available in January 2022

We are always looking for corporate sponsors to donate prizes, cash awards, trophies, and ribbons for our in-house show series. Our in-house shows are a celebration of the partnership between our students and our school horses and sponsorships are an important part of this celebration!

Just email Rhonda at info@maplewoodec.ca for sponsorship information!

Meet our Partners in Care

We can't do what we do without the support of these incredible professionals:

IMG_0222

Russell equine

Russell Equine is our "house vet" for our school horses and boarded horses. We consider our relationship with the veterinarians to be one of the most critical for the long-term health and well-being of the horses in our care. The knowledge, attention to detail, and level of care that they bring to their practice means that they understand the needs and requirements of the horses, and their owners.

Yvan Roy

Yvan Roy has been the "house farrier" for the school horses and the boarded horses since we began in 2009. Yvan is another critical member of the Maplewood team in the care of the horses. His expertise as a farrier has been instrumental in managing more than simply the hoof health. Yvan took his first farrier course in 1992 and currently provides farrier services to many horses and barns east of Ottawa.

Grace Equine massage

Erin Grace provides comfort and improved health to many of our school horses and boarders through her massage therapy practice. She is able to improve the lives of our retired schoolies and to reduce the stress and strains associated with being a school horse for our active schoolies. Erin is an important part of giving the school horses the resources they need in order to be the superstars that they are in our lesson program!

Fred agri-service

Fred Agri-Service supplies all of the Purina grains that we feed to the Maplewood horses. Most of our horses require only the vitamins and minerals found in Equi-Eez or EZ-Balance, but we are also happy to provide a full selection of Purina products to the not-so-easy-keepers!

Stuff-It Saddle fitting

Vicky Chalmers started saddle fitting in 2005 after an apprenticeship with Christian Lowe. She trained with other fitters and companies over the years to broaden her knowledge. Vicky has been keeping Maplewood's horses comfortably saddled by making adjustments to the fit of the saddles as the horses' body shapes change over time and by making recommendations for tack and equipment that will benefit the horse and rider.

Maplewood and covid-19

Safety and health comes first.

We will do our part in protecting the health and safety of our coaches, staff, students, family and friends. We try to be leaders in creating programs and procedures for maintaining physical distancing, wearing masks, vaccinating (when possible!), sanitizing of surfaces, tack, and equipment, and training and education. We expect everyone to stay at home if they (or someone they live with) is experiencing any symptoms or has travelled recently. Only by everyone working together are we able to provide the right environment for horses and people to come together.
